Philabundance is a hunger relief organization serving Greater Philadelphia. They are known for the huge impact they've had on the region—serving on average 33,000 children each week. Due to the volume of food that they handle, they sometimes have an overabundance, and all of that food won't make it to their clients in time.
In order save food that would otherwise be thrown out, Philabundance has partnered with local food processors to produce shelf-stable products like pickles, cheese, dried fruit, yogurt, and sauces. All of these products needed branding and packaging design, so The Hatchery seeded this problem to Tyler's Senior Design Packaging class. The class conducted research and competitive analysis, as well designed branding and packaging prototypes. Our students gained experience working directly with clients, while Philabundance received valuable research and professional design services pro bono.
